AAE elects new Chairperson Giampaolo Crenca and Vice-Chairperson Inga Helmane

On October 6, 2023, the Actuarial Association of Europe (AAE) elected Giampaolo Crenca as the new Chairperson of the AAE, serving until October 2024. Giampaolo is an Italian actuary currently residing and working in Italy. He has been a member of the AAE Board of Directors since 2021, actively participating in various roles within the AAE, including Membre Titulaire, member of the Nominations Panel, Editorial Board of The European Actuary, Communications Panel, and several task forces on specialized topics. Additionally, Giampaolo serves as the President of ISOA (Italian Society of Actuaries), where he has been a Board member for many years.

He holds a degree in Statistics and Actuarial Science from the University „La Sapienza“ in Rome and has earned a PhD in Actuarial Science. Giampaolo is also an accomplished author of numerous scientific and informative books and articles. Over the past 30 years, he has built a career as a consulting actuary and serves as a contract lecturer in actuarial and financial mathematics at three universities.

During the AAE’s General Assembly held in Cologne, Germany, Inga Helmane from Latvia was elected as the Vice-Chairperson for the upcoming year. Inga has been a Board member since 2020 and previously chaired the AAE Communications Panel.

Hartwig Sorger (Austria) and Lourdes Afonso (Portugal) were elected as new Board members, taking over from Philippe Demol and Mária Kamenárová, whose terms have concluded. Furthermore, Malcolm Kemp (UK) was elected as a Board member to fulfil the remainder of Kartina Thomson’s (UK) term, who resigned. Lastly, Loudina Erasmus (Netherlands) was appointed as the chairperson of the Risk Management Committee, succeeding Malcolm Kemp, whose term has also ended.
