This event runs from the 4th to the 6th of December 2019 at the new Santa Barbara Beach & Golf Resort in Curaçao. This is a significant actuarial meeting held annually in the Caribbean and will be the first time that a CAA conference is hosted in Curaçao.
The CAA is a full member of the International Actuarial Association (IAA). Its mission is to Support actuaries in the development of sustainable risk management solutions for Caribbean social and economic systems. The CAA has 280 members across the Caribbean and internationally, including in the Dutch Caribbean.
The theme of this year’s conference is Dare to Share. The Caribbean region is a melting-pot of different cultures with different insights. We will bring together delegates from the Caribbean, North America, Latin America and Europe and DARE them to SHARE their knowledge and expertise on difficult issues. That is why we’ve chosen to include several interactive sessions in the conference programme. We are convinced that by using an inclusion model, the diversity achieves better results through cross border debate, collaboration, creative thinking and networking. This is an ideal opportunity for the young to rub shoulders with the experienced and prominent local and international figures.
We also think it is important to share ideas between different professions. We have therefore included topics in the programme related to social economic development in the region, to attract non-actuaries as well as flex our actuarial skills in these areas. There are topics such as the impact of Tourism on the region, Health Economics and Behavioural Economics. It is also possible to register for only one day of the conference.
We have interesting speakers such as Marjorie Ngwenya, (the first President of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries to be resident outside the UK) who will participate in two sessions. She is an advocate of Diversity of Thought and will share with the participants the lessons learned from the African Insurance Industry. Frank Pardoel, of the International Actuarial Association’s Big Data working group, will show us how having adequate data gives us insight for better decision making in the future. Bob Traa is the new President of the Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten and he will be discussing the Challenges faced by Caribbean Nations but also the Opportunities that he sees arising for Caribbean Nations. Ana Maria Ramirez, President of the Colegio Nacional de Actuarios (CONAC) in Mexico, will give us an interesting talk about the challenges faced by the New Generations.
The conference allows time, during the day and the evening events, for networking.
