“We were persuaded by the platform at a very early stage” – interview with Dr. Klaus Mattar

Interview with Dr. Klaus Mattar, Managing Director RGA Germany

It would not be possible to realise actuview without the support of sponsors and partners. International reinsurer RGA decided very early to sponsor actuview as a partner in 2019 and thus enabled rapid realisation of the project.

actuview: RGA agreed to support the platform when it was still at the planning stage. Why?

Dr. Klaus Mattar: The precursor of actuview, the Virtual ICA, was showcased for the first time at last year’s ICA in Berlin. The concept was compelling. After our successful collaboration with the DAV as a platinum sponsor of the ICA, we decided to support actuview as a ‘founding sponsor’. As a major employer of actuaries we have an interest in furthering the development of the actuarial profession. Training and continuous professional development (CPD) are very important, and opportunities to leverage digital content for development will only increase. While personal contacts and networking at congresses, seminars and fairs remain important, many people are not able to participate in person.

actuview: Why is actuview so interesting for RGA?

Dr. Klaus Mattar: The actuarial material on actuview is very diverse and covers issues that are important from both a national and an international perspective. As an international company with locations all over the world, we support and promote this global exchange of ideas and content. Our subsidiary RGAX, for example, is very closely involved in digital and virtual innovations in the industry, and actuview ‘s international media platform for actuaries is another way for us to participate in, and support, this exchange.

actuview: What RGA content will be available on the platform?

Dr. Klaus Mattar: First, we actively support actuview in engaging with new partners – either as sponsors for events or as subscribers. Part of our commitment is making our own content available on the platform: this will include insight from our specialists as well as recordings and presentations from external events. Actuaries can also look forward to content that goes beyond traditional actuarial information to include, for example, expert reports covering insurance medicine or underwriting. We are eager to be part of this innovative, progressive, and forward-looking project! I’m sure that the platform will develop in many different directions, and we want to be part of weaving a global network for the actuarial profession.
